ASSIGNMENT FOR NOV 17

So sorry that I forgot to blog your assignment last week, but I remembered tonight so here goes!!

  • Look over the book especially chapters 14 and 15 and bring any questions that you have next week so that we can work through any misinformation, etc.
  • Continue and finish up the research for your papers.  Keep good track of your references so that they can be cited correctly in your finished work.  Refer to the info you were given this evening on MLA citation examples.
  • Remember also that your paper should be at least 5 pages in length, but not longer than 10 (that does NOT include your Works Cited page!).  Times New Roman font 12, double spaced.  Please refer to this website so that you know how to format the first page of your paper: http://libguides.hcc.hawaii.edu/content.php?pid=128174&sid=1099858   You will see several links and you need to find the one that says sample paper. Make sure that is under the MLA tab at the upper left hand corner of the pages.
  • Check the Federal Debt clock once or twice this week and keep track of the latest amount.  Write it down and bring in so that we can compare with before.
That is basically your assignment.

Your revised syllabus is as follows:
Nov 17. Finish with Chapter 14 and 15.      Review rest of book.    Work on Rough Draft.

Nov 24  No class for Thanksgiving break, but your rough draft is due today.  Email it to me by the 24th so that I will have time to get it back to you before Dec 1 with comments.
My email is cdsgant@embarqmail.com.

Dec 1 Rough Drafts returned; begin final revision.  We will begin to review for the final  exam and so if you still have questions let me know.

Dec 8 - I completely left this week off when writing on the board, so we have an extra evening.  We will work on a study guide for the test. Finish up your research papers this week. If you have any last minute questions and you want me to look at it before you finish it and after you make revisions then just email it to me again.

Dec 15 - This is the last class for economics.  Bring in the Final draft of your Research paper. We will tie up any loose ends, and review one last time for the test.  Your final exam will be a take home test. I may or may not let you use your notes.  (If you have good study notes between tonight the 10th and the 15th I may let you use them for the test, but that will be determined on the 15th.)  You can study as much as you want, but it will be due on Sunday, Dec 19th. Bring it to me at church.

If you or your parents have any questions about any of this have them email me or call.  You have my number.  Have a good week.

Love, Mrs. Debi

ASSIGNMENT FOR NOV 3

We had a good class again this evening.  I hope that you are getting as much from this as I am.  Here are you assignments for the week.

  • Keep on researching for your paper.  Take time to go to the public library and ask the reference librarian for help.  That is what she is there for.
  • Remember notes are very brief sentence fragments not more than 3-5 words.  They are NOT complete sentences.  Only put your direct quotes in complete sentences on your note cards.
  • Some of you need to redo the paragraph on the Boom and Bust Cycle and explain what it is.
  • Read Chapters 12 and 13 - pp. 82-93.
  • Google Federal Debt clock or go to http://www.usdebtclock.org/.
  • Make a chart and keep track of the amount of Federal Dept for four days in a row. Put the dates and the amount.  It is probably a good idea to do it the same time every day, but you might want to check it several times in one day as well to see how it changes.
  • Look at your Economic Time Table.  Make another chart with the Federal Debt in 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, and 1835. What conclusions can you draw from this information?
Hope you all have a good week.

ASSIGNMENTS DUE FOR OCTOBER 27

Hey, we had a great class tonight didn't we??? God is so good.  I wasn't feeling prepared enough and I prayed that He would show me what you needed and then everyone started asking questions about your papers and we were off.  I hope the outlines were helpful to you as you continue researching your topics.

I want you to spend as much time as you can working on your papers this week doing research so you homework assignment isn't very heavy:
  • Read in the book pages 75-81.  It is basically two very short chapters and Beyond the Basics.
  • Do Research for your papers.
  • Turn in your notecards next Wednesday.  Try to take as many notes as you can this week. Remember to be sure to put the author's name and page number on the card from where the information came from and be sure that you get all of the bibliographic information for each reference that you use. You can put all of that information on a notecard as well, with one notecard for each reference.
  • Be sure to look at the MLA information that you were given earlier so that you know what information you need in case you can't remember.
Just because you are turning in your notecards to be checked does not mean that you can't continue doing research the following week.  Keep taking your notes on cards and putting a topic on each card also so you will know to what subject it pertains.

I know that I am behind on grading your weekly work.  I don't know that I will have it next week or not, but I will have it definitely the following week.  Thanks for your patience.

If you have any questions call me or email.  See you on Sunday.

See you all tomorrow (Wednesday)

ASSIGNMENT FOR SEPT 22

First thing I want to tell you that it is such a pleasure to teach all of you.  Please give your parents a huge hug and THANK THEM PROFUSELY FOR NOT PUTTING YOU IN PUBLIC SCHOOL!!!!

Now about your assignment:
  • Look at the list of possible topics for your papers and choose one that sounds interesting to you
  • See the blog post titled "Possible Topics for Economics Paper."
  • Read Chapter 5: Revolutions, Elections, and Printing Presses
  • Read this and look for the answer to these questions:
  1. What are reasons for inflating in a dictatorship?
  2. What are reasons for inflating in a democracy?
  3. How do modern politicians inflate?
Be sure to know definitions of all boldfaced words.  Who knows you may have another quiz!!!!  Be prepared for information from this chapter or any previous chapter.

I will grade your paragraphs and quizzes and return them to you next week.  I did look over your quizzes and I don't think that you all did very well.  I really wasn't trying to stump you all.  I thought that all of those questions were pretty obvious in the text.  But this was only the first quiz so you will have the opportunity to bring up that grade.  As you read the next chapter look for obvious things in the text like lists, etc.  and of course the boldfaced words.

Also remember that you can get a grade on your binder.  I said that you could use a binder or a three pronged folder to keep you materials in and that I would be checking these some evening for a grade.  This isn't hard, just keep everything that I hand out to you in order and your notes in order by the dates of the classes.  So right now you should have notes from Sept 1st, 8th, and 15th and the article that we discussed tonight "Economics for Boys and Girls"  between the 8th and 15th notes.  Your notes should have all of the definitions from the boldfaced words in the book and any other notes that you took in class.  If you have missed any class notes, it is up to you to get those from one of your friends (or relatives!).

See you all next week.  Study hard.
